Low Country

Life has seriously been cray cray since we got back from our mini-vacay down south. I worked like four 12 hour shifts in a row, we had buckets full of laundry to do, and absolutely NO FOOD in the house. Therefore since last Wednesday we have been playing major catch up. Things are finally starting to get back to normal around our neck of the woods so I thought I would share some memories from our trip here :)

Our first half of the trip we spent in the historic district of Savannah, GA. This picture is actually from Wormsloe Plantation where Forrest Gump was filmed and a few other movies...
I mean those trees...come on. I die.

We spent a lot of nights in Ellis Square where they had tons of restaurants, awesome peach sangria, and live music-- the charm was too much to handle.

We visited Forsyth Park...

and ate at every restaurant that was recommended to us.
Paula Deen's restaurant, "The Lady and Son's", was just okay. Good home cookin' that resulted in such extreme fullness we immediately waddled back to the hotel and crashed...
Leopold's Ice Cream was also recommended to us (pictured above)...wish we would not have eaten an entire pizza between the two of us before we went there... cause it was THE BOMB.
On our last night we went to Jazz'd, a Tapas restaurant, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would recommend it to anyone traveling to the Savannah area. Tapas always makes for an intimate experience, love sharing small plates together, seeing what we each liked best.

Doin' life with this guy.

...and embarrassing him by wearing polka dotted pants
(had to take advantage of the 75 degree weather by wearing my new pants...)

Then, we traveled to Beaufort, SC which was about a thirty minute drive.  Even though I loved Savannah, Beaufort now holds a place in my heart as well.  We stayed in the Beaufort Inn (pictured above) and I'm pretty sure I fell in love when I saw the bathtub in our room.

Am I right? Or am I right? We could have stayed forever. We spent the entire day walking up and down the Main street eating lunch, meeting new people, perusing through art galleries, and then driving to Hunting Park about 20 miles away.
At Hunting Park I climbed my first lighthouse! ...and was so. out. of. breath.
Have I mentioned I am running a half marathon in two months?
I'll include climbing the lighthouse as part of my training plan.
We had a delicious dinner at Breakwater a local restaurant, and spent the rest of the night relaxing, and enjoying our beautiful room.

We also purchased our first piece of art from the Thibault Gallery for our new little home! The couple was so sweet and wanted to take a picture of us for their facebook page. The sailboat is made with vintage tin from a historic home in Beaufort. Each ship in the collection comes with its own story. We just loved it.

On our way home the next day we also stopped by the old Sheldon Church which was built, burned down, rebuilt, and then burned again.  This is what is left of the church today and is a very popular place for weddings.  One of the most beautiful places we have ever been.

After our ten hour drive home we are already dreaming about traveling again.  I guess we have a honeymoon to plan? :)
